Australia has a wealth of public and private zoos. Many include exotic (to us) species such as big cats and elephants, while others focus on Australian animals and birds. Some emphasise their breeding programs for endangered animals.

Union of Czech and Slovak Zoos

The UCSZ is a professional and ethical guarantor of all member zoos. It had 15 members when established in Bratislava (SK) in 1990.

The vision of the South East Asian Zoos Association is that its member zoos utilize their animal collections for the primary purposes of educating our public by imparting messages on the urgent need for environmental conservation in a manner that upholds the respect and dignity of the wild animal.

SEAZA represents over 30 member zoos, aquariums and captive breeding centres in the South East Asian region.

SEAZA also offers membership opportunities for individuals. Currently some 150 zoo and aquarium professional are full members, and a further 50 interested individuals subscribe to associate membership.

The African Association of zoos and aquaria – PAAZAB

The African Association of Zoos and Aquaria (PAAZAB) was formed in 1989 at the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa, Pretoria, South Africa as an organization aimed at representing the interests of bona fide zoos and aquaria on the African continent. PAAZAB currently represents a total of 50 institutional, affiliate and associate members in 9 African countries.

Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)

Founded in 1924, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of accredited zoos and aquariums in the areas of animal care, wildlife conservation, education and science. AZA is America's leading accrediting organization for zoos and aquariums, and accredits only those institutions that have achieved rigorous standards for animal care, education, wildlife conservation and science.

Our accredited members are zoos and aquariums that have met AZA's rigorous accreditation standards.

With its more than 200 accredited members, AZA is building North America's largest wildlife conservation movement.

 

Australasian Regional Association of Zoological Parks and Aquaria (ARAZPA)

ARAZPA (The Australasian Regional Association of Zoological Parks and Aquaria) is the peak zoo and aquarium organisation in the Australasian region.

ARAZPA's membership includes the major zoos and aquariums in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific Islands. 

ARAZPA is working towards developing zoos and aquariums as centres of excellence in conservation, education and research

ARAZPA was formally established on 3rd April 1990, at Auckland Zoo, New Zealand, and was incorporated in Victoria, Australia, on 30th April 1991.

European Association of Zoos and Aquariums – EAZA

Has an interactive map of Europe of the zoos

Up to date (1 November 2006) EAZA has 306 institutional members, including 261 full members, 9 temporary members, 35 associate members and 1 temporary associate member in 34 countries. Furthermore, EAZA has 3 honorary members and 10 institutions have been offered a 'candidate for membership' status.
