I would like to say a few words regarding the item no.3. - intiatives/projects to be taken under CSR.
BMC has failed our city for many reasons. I am wondering whether Corporates can help in improving the civic conditions. For example, our roads are unclean and full of hawkers. Can the Corporate sector take the initiative to maintain a cleaner city ? A company can form an association of residents where it is located and invite other companies and residents to join it. The association can adopt and maintain the pavement. All the licenced hawkers could be given a kiosk cost of which could be subsidised and recovered from the hawkers over a period of time. The hawkers have to keep a refuse bin to collect all throw-aways which could be collected by the BMC. Of course, a close co-operation has to be maintained with the BMC officials and the elected representatives.
I wonder whether BMC can develop a Hawkers' City, say at Vikhroli, where most of the Hawkers can be accomodated. People can go there for bargains.
Just there is an advisory board of the Corporate Sector to the PM, there could be an advisory board for the Mayor of the City. The board can prepare studies on various aspects of civic life and how best we could solve them.
Many companies which have their HQ/officies in Mumbai have rural development projects. However, they have not done much for Mumbai.
I believe that the Corporate Sector could bring about significant changes in the city if it interacts with the officials, politicians and people. Its management skills would help in finding solutions to the civic problems. There is a solution for every problem and it could be implemeted if everybody cooperates. Bringing about consenus is the issue - that is where the management skills are required.
With good wishes,
