BMC's New Drive: Cut Trees Kill Humanity

What is the BMC trying to acheive by cutting trees at Tilak Nagar, Chembur?

Would anyone explain me why the BMC was so desparate to unnecessarily cut the 50 years old trees at Tilak Nagar Signal, Chembur?

They had send men to cut the trees at 1 am in the night, that too on 29th April 2007, next day being Sunday.

I have not seen notices being affixed on the trees even for a period of 15 days.
How could the Tree Authority grant permissions for cutting of 1200 odd trees in Chembur and surrounding areas without actually inspecting the actual needs on a per case basis?
If they wanted space for widening of road, why cant they demolosh the illegal shops on the other side of the road. Or is it the buck that stops them from doing this? As trees cannot file any cases or pass the buck to them, i suppose...

If they had the permission, why do they need to come at 1 am in the night? Why approach like robbers at that hour of the night?

Now at this same location, besides the storm water drains, if we need to plant new trees, would the BMC grant us permissions even for that or not?

ARE WE GOING TO STOP THIS INSANE DRIVE OF THE BMC OR JUST WATCH THEM CLEAN BOMBAY OF ALL ITS GREENERY ?
