Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) took a step further towards making a smoke free world through a human chain where more than 300 students joined hands to spread the message that Smoking is Uncool on April 26 at Carter Road Promenade, Bandra (W). A signature campaign signifying the support of the participants and the influenced people along with the skit performance by the students, we unitedly spread the awareness to every individual and stop the first smoke, thus taking a step forward towards making a smoke free world.

 

Right next to the sea, the breezy evening saw excited youngsters signing the declaration and even putting their hand prints, agreeing to the fact that ‘Smoking is uncool’.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has designated May 31 as World No Tobacco Day. Every year CPAA collaborates with WHO and The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to call attention to the terrible impact of tobacco use on public health. A spirit of worldwide cooperation is our best chance for stamping out tobacco related deaths and disease and working towards a tobacco-free world. Youth are especially vulnerable and the best way to ensure that they do not embark down the road to this addiction is by educating college students at a young age.

 

“Our purpose is to propagate a long standing youth movement against the usage of tobacco, by encouraging active involvement in the delivery of the anti tobacco message. The tone that we have chosen to take is light hearted and fun, at the outset. By and large, this is the best way to involve students across the board to work for the cause,” said Foram Sanghavi, spokesperson, SWAT.

 

Hrishikesh Chury, president of Rotract Club of Bombay, Bandra also joined for the event.
