H-West ward office to conduct surprise sanitation checks ...Manthan K Mehta I TNN

Bandra: Get set to pay a fine in case you are not following the new and sanitation bylaws. The H-West ward office has decided to conduct surprise checks in their jurisdiction to ensure proper implementation of new rules by residents. These checks would be conducted only in lanes where the BMC provides point-topoint collection of wet waste.
V I Waghmare, assistant engineer (maintenance) said, “We are going to distribute around 2,000 pamphlets informing residents about the steps they need to follow. The clean-up marshals would be paying surprise visits to check whether the segregation of dry and wet waste is being properly undertaken by the residents of the ward.’’
Asked about the need to carry out surprise checks, he said, “The new bye-laws have come into effect some months ago. Such checks will help us find out how well they are being followed. If we find that the residents are not following the by-laws, they will be fined by the clean-up marshals.’’
He said there are some basic arrangements which are mandatory. For example, “Every premises must have two containers in the compound, of which, one should be used for wet and the other for dry garbage. The wet wastebin has to be kept outside the compound gate, which should be handed over to the point to point collection service, while the dry waste should be kept inside the compound and handed to workers of the weekly dry waste collection service.’’
Waghmare also warned that private sweepers found sorting dry waste like plastic, and paper near the roads and the premises from where the dry waste was brought, will be fined.
