Sub: Another “Nithari” is waiting to Happen

I sent you earlier an application dated 7-9-2006 regarding the illegal Truck stand at the gate of MCD Primary School Zamroodpur. After which for the past about 2 months I have made almost daily follow-up calls by phone. But to my amazement the illegal stand is still there with no effect on the illegal parking position.

To add further to this misery, now the trucks are parked even across the street also. I found out through unofficial sources that these truck owners send “HAFTA” to traffic police as well as to the Police Station.

There is presence of traffic police at the near-by gates of Lady Sri Ram (LSR) College and Blue Bells International School. One PCR is also parked near LSR gate. Still this illegal parking is not visible to these traffic cops and any other authority. To stress the apathy of the system to the poor MCD School, these trucks are not parked in front of either the LSR college or the Blue Bells International School. The reason is quite obvious, the parents of MCD School are not rich and influential. Also most of them are daily wagers, migrant from different states, illiterate and ignorant. But threat to the children of MCD School is higher for the following reasons:

1)      These truck drivers are usually not verified by the police and are not on any record. So if these drivers run away after kidnapping the child from the school, then it will be hard to track and find the child and kidnapper.

2)      Girls are also students in this school. There is potential threat of kidnapping, rape and then murder of these girls. Once this happens then in spite of the authorities waking up and taking action, it will be of no use. It will be a case like another Nithari. Also, just like Nithari, even if some kidnappings occur, police would not even file the complaint to avoid showing high crime in their area. Because the parents of these kids are poor, just a verbal thereat of police is enough for them to keep quite and not mention their problem to anybody. Who knows that already some kidnappings have already taken place and no information is available.

3)      This is a wake up time for us. Please remove this illegal parking. If you want to relocate the parking, there is one park inside Zamroodpur at a very broad road that’s where you make proper parking. Stop another Nithari.

It is, therefore, once again requested that appropriate timely steps may kindly be taken to avoid happening of another Nithari incident.
