It is a micro level study conducted in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. A survey was conducted with random sample from Muslims, Backward Classes and Scheduled Caste population of 22 villages. The data was collected on literacy, drop out rate, child labour, health and family planning, occupational pattern, gender ratio, polygamy, divorce, single women, women in Self Help Groups and beneficiaries from government support.

The study conclusively proved that Muslims are as backward as other marginalised sections like SCs and BCs. On some development indicators their condition is worse. It also shattered the myths about polygamy among Muslims and also showed that family planning is gaining acceptance among the rural Muslims. This book gives good insight into the conditions of Muslims in comparison with other marginalised sections.
