Topic / Issue Covered: Botswana's threatened birds, tourism potential of birds

Why you would recommend the book to others:  the role and appreciation of tourism as a means to diversify rural livelihoods is growing globally. However, one of the key challenges facing a lot of communities (especially the youth) who have an interest in venturing into tourism is the unavailability of cheap, durable and easy to use field guides, especially in their local language.

It was against this background that BirdLife Botswana published the aforementioned book in English and Setswana (the vernacular), to enable potential tour guides and other interested parties (e.g. specialists doing Environmental Impacts Assessments) better communicate with whomever they need to communicate with, in either English and Setswana.

With each bird illustrated, such communication is further enhanced!

Any other details:  The book we hope will be an inspiration for other organisations that have been planning on undertaking a similar venture, but who have been struggling with ideas on how that could work.

The book is beginning to revolutionise rural development (especially with regards tourism) as well as Environmental Impact Assessments in Botswana. We hope it will motivate other people across the world to publish similar books.
