| Info centres for project affected persons Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitam Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has opened eight public information centres in the city to keep project affected persons (PAPs) informed about the progress on various resettlement programmes. D N Kawathkar, joint project director (PR) with the MMRDA, said: “Eight public information centres have been opened to decentralise the flow of information on the status of various rehabilitation projects.’’. The centres have been opened at the MMRDA office at Bandra, Bandra-Kurla Complex, S V Patel site and PMPG Colony at Mankhurd, Majas and Ajgaonkar plot at Jogeshwari, Kismat Nagar at Kurla (W) and Kanjurmarg. Most of the centres are located near MMRDA rehabilitation projects. An MMRDA official and an NGO activist would be in charge of the centres, which will furnish project-affected people (PAPs) with information about the resettlement programmes. “PAPs can check if their names have been included in the Basic Socio-Economic Survey, which makes them eligible for rehabilitation. They can also get information on the procedure for resettlement,’’ said Kawathkar. Of the 23,000 people to be resettled under the MUTP scheme, 17,000 have already been relocated to tenements provided by the MMRDA. “The remaining will be rehabilitated by March 2006,’’ said an MMRDA official. The people affected by the MUTP projects are being relocated at Majas in Jogeshwari, NESCO in Goregoan while those dislocated by the MUIP projects have been offered houses in Goregoan and Oshiwara. | | | |
