Muskan launched to bring a smile to senior citizens

Supported by Birla Group, NGO launches project to help elderly women cope
with loneliness

THE Rajasthani Mahila Mandal, a non-governmental organisation, has launched
Muskan, a project dedicated to support senior citizens.
Rajshree Birla, member of the Board of Directors of the Aditya Birla Group
and a trustee with the mandal, announced the new project at a press
conference on Tuesday.

Muskan aims to interact with elderly women across all castes and help them
cope with the loneliness of old age.

"We will share experiences and try to make them feel comfortable with us.
The mandal will also take them for movies or trips once a week," said
Sushila Moralkar, one of the trustees.
Comprising women from all walks of life, the Rajasthani Mahila Mandal has
completed 50 years and is still going strong with more than 800 members.
The mandal, which is backed by the Aditya Birla Group, has taken several
initiatives in the field of education, health care and also evolved
livelihood programmes for women.

"Our social workers go to wadis and make the women and children there aware
of our various activities, like our schools at Gowalia Tank and at
Thakurdwar, that provide free education at the primary level," said Madhuri
Nevatin, president of the mandal.

Emphasising on the need for corporates to be socially responsible, Birla
said: "Corporate social responsibility is very important. We must not forget
the people we work with."
