B: My Complaint Details
1. Period of incident: 2008 - Jun
2. Services that were sought: No service. the issue was one of Traffic rule violation
3. Problem/s I faced: The police office (Mohammad Khaniff at Brigade Road) said that our driver did not stop when he was told to stop by other office at a earlier traffic light. It was harassment. We had a car full of old people and children. He should have just give the ticket - instead he was fished for cash.
4. Bribe amount: Rs 200
5 a. Was the bribe paid? Yes. I thought I was paying for the traffic ticket, but he never gave me the ticket or recipt so it was a bribe
5 b. Could the work have been done without paying the bribe? If so, how? Do not know.
6. Result: We payed the bribe and left - no record of what happened to both sides
C: Additional Informtion a ttached
Details of Content: Nil
D: My Suggestions
1. For head of government department:
Suggestion 1: I would like to be clearly advised on what was the issue? What laws were broken? What are my rights on this matter? I woud like the violation ticket and be given a time frame to pay the ticket. Not cash there and then. In fact cash should not be allowed so all transactions can be noted.
2. For the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) / Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI):
Suggestion 1: Bangalore is horrible for corruption - police, customs and govement officials. The ACB should mount a major campaign.
Suggestion 2: Please have a web site where every citizen can report the name of the bribe taking official. That way these fellows who take bribes know that they will be exposed on the Internet. That will stop them immediately.
3. For other citizens:
Suggestion 1: Ask what the violation was in writing? Educate your self of you rights when a traffic cop stops you. When is he doing his duty, when is he harrassing?
E: I am not ready to reveal contact details because
