3.                  Landscaping

Landscaping can create an attractive visual environment and create a “buffer” between the footpath and the carriageway.  There are two types of treatment.

i.                    Permanent Planting

ii.                   Moveable Planters (flower pots)

Permanent Planting : Be sited within the street furniture zone, and consist of trees, flowers, shrubs or grass.  Species must be collected with care to ensure that they fit in the surrounding area and are appropriate for the environment.

Moveable planters can be placed in the frontage zone as well as street furniture zone, provided they do not protrude into the through route.

4.                  Moveable planters

The footpath is the main location for moveable planters.  They are provided to enhance the walking environments.  However, it also has the potential to create obstructions and intimidate pedestrians.

5.                  Guidelines for moveable Planters

·                   Planter dimensions

Pot width                        :            Max. 0.75 m

Pot length                        :            Max. 0.75 m

·                   Plant height             :      Max. 0.50 m

Spacing between pots            :            2.0 m

·                   Planter should be placed outside the through route

·                   Minimum footpath width required is 2.75 m to allow moveable planters
