Civic body to act against errant sonography Mumbai
THE BMC decided to crack down on sonography clinics found flouting the mandatory requirements of the Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Tendencies Act (1994). This comes after a group of NGOs, ‘Laadli Alliance' surveyed 40 clinics in the M West ward, and found that only one clinic complied with the Act's requirements like registration of sonography equipment and mandatory display of a notice stating: ‘Determination of the sex of the foetus is banned and illegal'. The findings prompted the civic body to take notice. Additional Commissioner (Health) Kishore Gajbhiye said civic officials would inspect all the city's sonography clinics. "This is a social issue. Those found flouting norms would be punished," he said.
