S.M.Divekar is Managing Director of Risk Control Rating Systems India Pvt. Ltd., a Joint Venture in Industrial Safety with an Australian Safety Expert. He is visiting faculty in Marine Insurance with Training Ship, “Chanakya”, Lal Bahadur Shastri College Of Advanced Maritime Studies And Research, Mumbai Maritime Training Institute, MASSA etc. He is also a consultant in Marine Hull Insurance. He has expertise in three fields. Firstly in Shipping where he devoted 13 years rising from a Cadet on T.S. “Dufferin” in 1952 to Master of a Foreign Going vessel in 1964. Secondly in Marine Hull Insurance. He was directly involved with the underwriting of all Indian Hulls for more than 15 years, in his capacity as in-charge of the Marine Hull Dept. of the New India Assurance Co. Ltd. During this period he had exposure to working of P&I Clubs also as New India were representing major P & I Clubs such as Britannia, West of England, U.K. Mutual etc. Later he was entrusted with all Technical Departments of Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd., New Delhi, as General Manager. He was also Director on the Board of Directors. He was Nominee Director on the Board of Chowgule Steamships Ltd. on behalf of General Insurance Corporation Of India. Thirdly in Loss Prevention or Risk Control to which discipline he was exposed , as Managing Director of Loss Prevention Association Of India Ltd. Capt. S.M.Divekar had 1st class academic career throughout, standing 1st in his District in S.S.C. examination, securing 1st Class in T.S.” Dufferin” Final Passing Out Examination, Standing 1st in both the parts of Associatship Examination in Marine Branch conducted by The Insurance Institutes Of India.
