Brief History : Recent changes in socio-economic and political scenario of the country and specifically of Bihar and Jharkhand, have posed new challenges before the voluntary organizations thus making their role and responsibilities more crucial. In such difficult situation, 2005-2006 marked another successful year in BMKK's efforts to provide access and control over productive resources by rural women-the most vulnerable section of the society. We concentrated on identifying avenues for socio-economic empowerment of women through promotion of SHGs, skill training, providing financial inputs and establishing marketing linkages. In due course, BMKK has also been associated with like-minded VOs and social groups in Bihar and Jharkhand to strengthen voluntary action for the socio-economic development of the society. As its Secretary, I have the pleasure to present this progress report to you for your critical comments and valuable suggestions. I also take this opportunity to acknowledge the valuable contribution of BMKK's team and well wishers without whose support it would have been difficult to move towards the desired mission. (Ms. Anita Gupta) Secretary Bhojpur Mahila Kala Kendra

One moving testimonial:
Kunti devi A success Entrepreneur
Kunti Devi age 35 years is a poor resident of village Semariyan of Barhara block in Bhojpur district. She was married in her childhood. She has four sons and two daughters. Because of her non involvement in economic activities her husband did not like her. One day her husband left her and married with other women. Mountains of problems came on her way to manage her six children. At this time of crisis, she contacted BMKK and got skill training free of cost. She got skilled in a limited period of time and started preparing bed sheets, cushion covers and wall hangings. Her goods started being sold through showroom of the BMKK situated at Patna. She also began to take part in the exhibitions and Melas organized at different places and sold her items there. Kunti Devi has now become self-dependent and is facing the challenges of life well.
