Abstract

The Adivasi Hakk project works on welfare and development programme for the tribal living in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park at Borivali in North Mumbai. It constantly strives to shape all its programmes around the real needs of the community. Its objectives include awareness generation among the tribal people on legal, socio-economic and cultural issues affecting their lives; empowering the women to participate in development programmes; mobilise the community resources for training through programmes on health, vocational training, community education, etc.

Ankur Child Survival Project works on the welfare and development programmes for the high-risk group of sex workers and their children. It provides various services such as education, health, nutrition and support services based on the actual needs of the target community; develops and implements a comprehensive rehabilitation programmes for the children and empowers the women through awareness programmes and mobilisation of these women to form groups. It also focuses on networking with other organisations working in the same field.

Abstract

The overall objectives of the Health Posts is to plan, manage and implement family welfare services to the assigned population with special emphasis on mother and child health, birth spacing and increased use of contraceptive methods. The activities taken up by the Posts include baseline survey of the population residing within the target area, listing the eligible couples, motivating them to accept the family planning methods, immunisation of children up to 5 years, distribution of iron and folic acid tablets to combat anaemia, awareness programmes on environmental sanitation, etc.

Abstract

Project CHILD was initiated to help children and families affected/ infected by HIV/AIDS. Many programmes have been initiated under this project, some of these include: 1) counselling where the families are trained for home care for the target children; 2) Medical support providing financial support for medicines and other needs of the children; 3) Educational Support. It has also undertaken a programme called ASHRAY, which takes care of children who have nobody to look after him or her. It is a temporary home, providing a secure environment to the children. It extends its support to work out long term rehabilitation of the children either by placing them with their extended families or arranging for foster care.

Its objectives include providing medical rehabilitation to the leprosy affected people, socially empower persons, and integrate them with the mainstream society through social education, community awareness programmes, and providing them counselling and guidance.

Abstract

Nirdhaar is a community development programme working in the area of education, health, and socio-economic development. The objectives of the project include facilitating people’s movement in the community and help them cope with the present crisis situation, and enhance their self-sustenance; empower women in the target communities and initiate development activities for them; upgrade the health services for the communities; and promote education among the children and facilitate a smooth transition of the slum to a new area of habitation.
