Abstract
|
The project includes
innovative approaches to promote population education concepts in
schools, colleges and universities and family life and sex education
programmes with a special focus on the largely neglected out-of-school
youth sector. The sex education, counselling, research, and
training/therapy centres provide counselling including sexuality,
marriage, parenthood and family planning. Besides training health
professionals in these areas, FPAI also trains NGOs including youth
serving agencies.

Abstract
|
FPAI has been carrying
out a number of need-based training programmes for various categories of
personnel and volunteers in the fields of health and family planning.
Broadly, they include health professionals, educators, field workers and
NGOs. Training of health professionals ranges from orientation sessions
and courses for upgrading knowledge and counselling skills of both medical
and paramedical to training in advances surgical techniques in family
planning for medical doctors. Training of traditional birth attendants in
safe obstetric practice and of practitioners of indigenous systems of
medicine in reproductive and sexual health and family planning is a
growing area of work. Sensitising and training educators including
teachers in schools and colleges and adult educators as also workers of
youth servicing agencies to communicate family life and sexuality
education to young people is another thrust area of the project.

Abstract
|
FPAI through this
project identifies, trains and assists smaller NGOs who need help to start
family welfare work. It helps to demonstrate to the NGO community that
family planning, as a major development concern, can not only fit in
naturally with their welfare activities, but when integrated, can easily
gain the acceptance of their communities and augment their ongoing
activities.

Abstract
|
The project aims at
empowering women to become active decision-makers in financial, social and
other spheres of life, exercise reproductive health choices, and strive
for gender equity. Its main characteristics are: 1) empower women largely
focussing on literacy, education, skills development, economic
self-reliance, decision making abilities, reproductive health and gender
sensitivity, 2) address reproductive health and young girls, and 3) expand
outreach services and generate a sustainable demand for family planning
and other reproductive health services. The development interventions
introduced by the project have helped in changing people's attitude
towards reproductive health and family planning.

Abstract
|
The project aims to
mobilise community action for promoting reproductive health. Its basic
premise is to provide a people's dimension to the family planning
programme and to empower the community to generate and satisfy a
sustainable demand for reproductive health including family planning. The
project promotes family planning in the context of the health and humane
rationales, strengthens service delivery links with governments/NGOs, and
makes bridges between the people and developmental agencies. It also
provides an organisational frame to generate a sustainable demand for
reproductive health and family planning. Developing interventions largely
focussing on community empowerment and promoting gender sensitivity in
programme planning and implementation are the other areas of the project.
It trains and orients local voluntary groups formed by it, with a view to
enable them to identify needs, find solutions and take initiatives for
community action.

Abstract
|
The project conducts
educational activities for enhancing the status of women and initiating
the process of women empowerment. The major emphasis of the project is to
extend education and major services through mobile units to cover
locations further away from the service centres. These mobile
education-cum-service units provide correct information and clarify
misconceptions concerning reproductive health and family planning to the
members of the community through counselling as well as various other IEC
activities. It has helped the association in reaching out and providing
education, counselling and quality services to needy persons in
under-served rural and semi-urban areas and urban slums.

Abstract
|
About 37 comprehensive
family planning clinics have been established under the project to provide
information, education and counselling for services related to
reproductive and sexual health including family planning along with MCH
care, safe abortion and infertility treatment. They also provide support
services to other non-clinical projects. The quality of services offered
by the clinics are monitored by conducting medical audits and client flow
analysis as well as analysis of volunteer surgical contraceptive services.

Abstract
|
This project involves
centres run by FPAI on the guidelines given by the government. These
centres contribute to the association’s mission in achieving the goals
related to the contraceptive prevalence rate, immunisation status and
infant mortality rate. The project will also network with other NGOs and
enlist their support thereby contributing to the association's goal
related to involving NGOs in FP activities. Each centre provides family
planning and MCH information, education and services to an average
population.
