Abstract

The project aims to mobilise community action for promoting reproductive health. Its basic premise is to provide a people's dimension to the family planning programme and to empower the community to generate and satisfy a sustainable demand for reproductive health including family planning. The project promotes family planning in the context of the health and humane rationales, strengthens service delivery links with governments/NGOs, and makes bridges between the people and developmental agencies. It also provides an organisational frame to generate a sustainable demand for reproductive health and family planning. Developing interventions largely focussing on community empowerment and promoting gender sensitivity in programme planning and implementation are the other areas of the project. It trains and orients local voluntary groups formed by it, with a view to enable them to identify needs, find solutions and take initiatives for community action.
