Abstract
|
The Saheli project
aims to educate the sex workers on HIV/STD/AIDS. It also distributes
condoms and ascertains usage of the same. It provides various services
including health care, networks for referral and options for free HIV
testing. To educate these people it has opted for peer education model
which includes leaders at three levels namely: Saheli, Tai and Bai. These
leaders are trained on techniques of client negotiations, STD/HIV
prevention through personal interviews, group discussions, lectures, etc.
They are then assigned the responsibilities of educating the sex workers
on various issues related to AIDS.

Abstract
|
The objective of the
project is to create mass awareness about AIDS in a short period of time
and to sensitise media and policy makers. It organises campaigns and
massive rallies through the densely populated areas, culminating in public
meetings, followed by workshops for media and health professionals.
Regular AIDS awareness programmes through lectures, slide shows, video
films, talks, debates, exhibitions are also conducted.
