Abstract

The main aim of the project is to impart training to the tribals on collection of Non-Timber Forest Produce (NTFP) with a scientific background including medicinal herbs for their livelihood throughout the year. The training covered various aspects of NTFP products by organising periodical workshops for the volunteers who inturn train the village people. The training helped the villagers to get familiar with many NTFP plants, products, collection process, drying, preservation, value addition and marketability. They also learned the scientific aspects of plants, their identification with local and technical names, flowering, fruit setting and seed formation.

Abstract

The aims and objectives of QRS include identifying all the NTFP available in the tribal areas, estimating the likely quantitative avalibility of the NTFP resources of the area, highlighting the NTFP which is available in lesser quantities but has a greater economic value and make the tribals use the forest wealth without using destructive practices.

Abstract

Kovel Foundation through this project aims to provide gainful employment to the tribals and generate forest cover by planting various NTFP species, particularly on the hill tops and abandoned podupatches. Kovel provide intensive training and technical assistance to the local tribal youth, who inturn organise the activities at the village level.

Abstract

The project invovles problem identification through discussions with buyers/traders and gum pickers to determine the nature of problem in marketing gum. Based on these discussions the market requirements were identified covering various factors. Training and extension has been taken up for the gum pickers to disseminate information on gum collection, drying, grading and storage.
