The Global Development Network (GDN) is pleased to announce the following:

Apply now for the 2008 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition. This year's theme is Natural Resource and Development. The competition awards cash prizes and a round-trip airfare with all boarding and lodging expenses, to travel to Kuwait in January 2009 where the finalists will showcase their proposals/ papers/projects before an eminent jury for the final round. Submissions for fresh research proposals and completed research papers are now being accepted under the categories listed below.

The two awards and their categories open to competition are:

 1. Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development: it’s for applicants who have outstanding new research proposals that adds a unique dimension to research on any of the five topics listed below

2. Medals for Research on Development: is offered for excellent completed research papers on any of the five topics listed below

The focus of the research proposals/ papers must be on any one of the following five topics:

1. The Governance and Political Economy of Natural Resource Management

2. Exploitation of Natural Resources: Trends and Environmental Implications

3. The Economics of Natural Resource Management

4. Foreign Direct Investment and Natural Resources

5. Societies and Natural Resource Management
