1.       Brief: Ghatkopar lost its one of the finest and noblest citizens in Dr.A. M. Pai, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2005. Dr. Pai was Honorary Rotarian of Rotary Club of Mumbai Ghatkopar (RCMG) and also an active Social Worker of Ghatkopar.

 

  1. Objectives of Award: (a) To keep the memory of Dr.A. M. Pai, long cherished and live in the hearts of his friends, well-wishers, co-social workers, and more importantly in the suburb of Ghatkopar, which was his ‘Karma Bhoomi’- seat of work. RCMG has established an award to be given annually, to a person who puts service before self. (b) To identify a citizen who is following the principles of Dr.A.M.Pai and serves the society with the inner most urge to serve and thus exemplifies the motto of “Service Above Self” so as to appreciate, motivate and recognize such person for his services to the society. (c) To extend the public contact of RCMG and enhance club’s public relation with the community of Ghatkopar so as to achieve better integration of the club’s service activities.

 

  1. Award: (a) Award will consist of a beautifully crafted trophy (depicting name of Dr.A. M. Pai, RCMG and will be specific for “awardees”. (b) Award will be accompanied by a certificate, detailing the achievements and services of the person selected to receive the award. (c) One Award will be given annually.

 

  1. Award Function: Award will be presented in ‘shukriya’ - thanks giving function of RCMG, to be held in month of June at the hands of a prominent person from Rotary or otherwise. Awardee will be invited with his/her family members, friends and well-wishers up to about 25 nos.

 

  1. Committee: Committee for awardee’s selection is as follows:

a)      Current President of RCMG, who shall be the Chairperson of the Awards Committee.

b)      Immediate Past President of RCMG.

c)      One of the senior Past Presidents of RCMG.

d)      Two persons will be nominated by RCMG from eminent Social Workers from the public to be on the committee.

 

  1. Eligibility for the Awards:

 

a)      Person must have been member of one or more social service organizations, NGOs, at least for a period of five or more years.

b)      Must have demonstrated ideals of “Service Above Self” in letter and spirit.

c)      Must have consistently worked in the chosen field of social service and must have established an outstanding public image.

d)      May be resident of Ghatkopar and must have worked in/for Ghatkopar.

e)      Not to be member of RCMG or Awards Committee at the time of consideration for award.

f)       Must be agreeable to accept the award if selected for the same.

7.      Fields of Social Service: Following is broad outline of the various fields of social work, which will  

      be considered for the purpose of selecting the awardee:

 

a.             Charitable Medical Services

b.             Charitable Educational Activities

c.             Eye Donation/Blood Donation

d.             Welfare of Physically/Mentally Challenged

e.             Welfare of Senior Citizens

f.              Upliftment of women and people from socially deprived classes.

g.             Any other field not mentioned above but deemed fit by the Awards Committee.

 

8.    Nominations for Award: (a) Nominations will be invited from the community    

              through press release, personal letters to NGOs and other organizations,         

              prominent social workers of Ghatkopar, through telephonic and personal    

              contacts. (b) Committee can also consider names of persons other than

              nominated, if it is felt that they are worthy of Award over and above the     

       nominations received and from the past year applicants.

 

9.    The Committee:

             

(a)    The committee has power to make rules of procedure for inviting nominations and selecting the Awardee.

(b)    Decisions of the committee will be by majority and incase of equality of votes, the chairperson of the committee will have the casting vote.

(c)    The decision of the committee will be final and binding on all.

               

In order to select the deserving candidate for award, public at large are requested to give their suggestions and nominations of deserving persons, by filling in the enclosed form to help us in deciding the proper person. As we propose to give the award for the year 2006, in the third week of June 2006, you are requested to complete the form giving the maximum information by May 25th 2008, at the address given on the form.
