| Brief Projects / Achievements : Sadhana believes in the integration of the life and activities of the special community with those of the rural communities living around in the Kolwan valley. There are more than 3300 rural families living in 18-19 communities. They have their own needs, aspirations and lifestyle. The coworkers and technical supporters for Sadhana have sat with the families and assessed the needs and have initiated projects to address some of them. Water conservation dams have been constructed and five lift irrigation schemes have been implemented.140 families have been assisted with loans to buy milch animals and now milk is centrally collected, processed and marketed for them. Family toilets have been constructed in nine communities and more are planned. More than five hundred women have been trained in economic activities and 25 self-help-groups have been flourishing. They have demonstrated such a sense of financial discipline that the National Bank(NABARD) has recognised six groups for informal credit. The local men women and children have access to Sadhana houses and are invited to mingle freely with special friends and spend time with them. The special friends at Sadhana are no more people to be shunned and feared. The rural women and children wish them on their way to farm and school. They often invite our special friends for festivals in the communities and even to wedding feasts! The coworkers and members of Support Group from Pune City have a lot to offer to these rural communities. They can help in the areas of education, technical skills, information. planning, health etc. And the local populace is grateful for such assistance to them. |
