DP World chips in to protect environment at Elephanta Caves

DP World, one of the largest marine terminal operators in the world that operates a container terminal at JN Port, has undertaken a project to protect and safeguard adjoining coastline to the Elephanta Caves.

The coastline has become a dumping ground for used plastic bottles, bags and waste thrown into the sea. In collaboration with Sarpanch of Gharapuri (the village under whose jurisdiction the caves falls), the terminal operator has not only identified a special waste accumulation area but also taken steps to cordon off the area with nylon netting.

"The net along the affected seashore will help in accumulating the waste and has made it easier for the local village panchayat to clean the waste, everyday," said Captain Rustom Dastoor, CEO DP World Nhava Sheva.

According to him, this effort is line with in its ongoing efforts to preserve the natural habitat in the area surrounding its container terminals in the subcontinent.
