Last month, Zubaan had published Locked Homes, Empty Schools: The Impact of Distress Seasonal Migration in collaboration with American India Foundation. It was released on 20 Dec 2006, by Prof. Amartya Sen at India International Centre, New Delhi.

In January, we released an anthology of short stories from South Asia, edited by Radha Chakravarty - Bodymaps. The contributors are Indira Goswami, Amrita Pritam, Bhuwan Dhungana, Ismat Chughtai, Mahasweta Devi, Ambai, Yashodhara Mishra, Kunzang Choden, Kathleen Jayawardene, Manjula Padmanabhan, Selina Hossain, Asha Kardaley, Easterine Iralu, Zaheda Hina and Kamala Das. The translators include Hina Nandrajog, Manjushree Thapa, Anjana Srivastava, Lakshmi Holmstrom, Mahasweta Baxipatra, Vijita Fernando, Keerti Ramachandra, Muhammad Umar Memon, V.C. Harris and C.K. Mohamed Ummer.

The Hutch Crossword Book Award 2006 longlist for English Fiction includes Temsula Ao's collection of short stories from Nagaland - These Hills called Home: Stories from a War Zone. The shortlist will be announced by Suketu Mehta on 17 January 2007.

Poster Women update: In Dec 2006, Poster Women was successfully exhibited at Lalit Kala Akademi, Chennai. Our local collaborators, IWID helped organize a fantastic show. The event was inaugurated by Ms. Kanimozhi, writer and activist. Over the next few months, Poster Women will be travelling within India to Guwahati, Baroda, Mumbai (Kalaghoda festival), Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Shillong, Bhubaneshwar, Patna and Udaipur. An international version of the exhibition closed on 14 Jan 2007 at HGKZ: Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst (School of Art and Design), Zürich.

The literary festival season is here. Later this week, Virasat Literary Festival, Jaipur will have Urvashi Butalia in conversation with Baby Halder and Anita Roy in conversation with Tishani Joshi and later with Amit Chaudhuri. Next month, is the Kalaghoda Festival and Kitab Festival in Mumbai. Speaking of literary engagements, last week The Bookshop, Jorbagh, New Delhi announced that every second Tuesdays of the month will be reserved for a "Meet the Author" evening. The series was inaugurated by an informal conversation with Baby Halder.

Zubaan Diary 2007: Mother India: The response to the diary has been phenomenal. The stocks are fast dwindling. So, if anyone is interested in ordering more copies, please do so now as we are not going to be reprinting. 2007 is the fiftieth anniversary of the film. It was the first Bollywood film to be nominated for the Oscars.

Last month, we had announced the launch of online payment on the Zubaan website. We have been receiving orders steadily. We regret to inform you that our online payment gateway will not be accepting payments through MasterCard, for a few days. This is a due to MasterCard International having revised some of its rules that deal with online payment service providers. However, all other payment options will still be available, as usual. Please rest assured that the MasterCard option will be available in a few days, once our payment gateway has been updated with the new rules. We regret the inconvenience caused to you and are striving to get things back to normal as soon as is possible.
