Wish you all a very Happy & Prosperous New Year!  Hope you are celebrating New Year as the beginning of a better tomorrow and spreading happiness with wonderful New Year wishes!

 

By the end of this year, we had celebrated World AIDS Week by way of spreading Awareness among the people of Mumbai.  We had organised workshops, Awareness Programmes, Puppet Shows, One Minute Game Show, at various places throughout Mumbai under our projects Slum Intervention Project, Palavi Projects for S & E administrative wards of Mumbai.

 

In the S ward administrative area the programme organised at six different places during 1 to 15 December 2006.  The programme consists of Poster Exhibition, Pamphlet Distribution, Awareness about HIV / AIDS and complete information about Palavi Kendra given to the beneficiaries.   The beneficiaries of the programme are shown as under:

Now, highlights of the regular activities:

PALAVI  KENDRA – ('S' Ward)

5573 families have been visited in the month which includes 8006 male, 7756 female get benefited through one to one counselling.   70 ANC cases found.  17 have been referred to our centres at Savitribai Maternity Home & Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital .  2 male, 2 female agreed for voluntary testing referred to VCTC.  2 Tuberculosis patients were sent to RNTCP for further treatment and care. 

This month we organised a meeting with the Members of a Mahila Mandal in Vikhroli Mrs. Kashmira Bhatt, President of Bharatiya Tatwadnyan Vishwastha Mandal was the Chief Guest of the meeting.   She guided the women and made them aware about HIV / AIDS and Prevention of Parents to Child Transmission.  She also was delivered a lecture on nutrition during the programme.

PALAVI   – ('E' Ward)

This month in 'E' Ward area, our Out Reach Workers had direct interactions with 3880 families, which includes 3976 male and 4357 female.   They were counselled, guided and given proper guidance on health related matters, HIV & PPTCT Centre, Prevention and Family Planning.

In all, No cases found of opportunistic infections.   116 ANC mothers found, out of which 22 have been referred to Nair Hospital PPTCT Centre.  1 case found suffering from Tuberculosis.   6 cases of Candidacies have been referred to STD Centres. 123 cases of Diabetes were found.

We would like to mention here that we have covered 1,89,673 population of this ward in 12 months from January to December, under which 76 ANC cases are found +ve in this ward.

This month 12 +ve women registered and 8 delivered in Nair Hospital .   4 persons, which includes 1 Female and 3 Male, referred to VCTC.  2 +ve children referred to Sion Hospital for ART treatment.

This month, Mr. Rakesh Mayekar, NGO Co-ordinator, MDACS, visited at the work site of Out Reach Workers in Nahur Village .  He also attended one programme of Mahila andal at Tanaji Wadi.  He guided the participants and gave information about the Palavi Kendra and its activities.

One Review Meeting for both the 'S' & 'E' Wards was taken on 22 nd December, 06.  16 Out Reach Workers along with both the Project Co-ordinators and Counsellors were present during the meeting.


SLUM   SANITATION

This month, We have arranged locality meeting along with local corporator Mr. Sudhir Rane at Park site Vikhroli (W).  Shivtirth Grah Nirman Mandal, Sankalp Mitra Mandal, Gurukrupa Chawl Committee, Shivam Mitra Mandal, Om Sai Ram Mitra Mandal were the participants of the meeting.   They were explained about the necessity and the advantage of common toilets and procedure to follow with Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.  

Two Mandals Sankalp Mitra Mandal and Om Sai Ram Mitra Mandal who were not registered with Charity Commissioner, provided guidance and assistance by us to get registered with Charity Commissioner of Mumbai for further procedures.  

Other Mandals were helped to complete paper works required by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai for getting work-order for the same.

All the above Mandal's Chairman and Secretaries responded to our staff members and we succeeded to get work order before the election code of conduct clamped.

Bhoomi Poojan at 4 different sites at Vikhroli had been arranged this month on December 10, 2006, which includes 1) Om Sairam Mitra Mandal; 2) Shivtirth Grah Nirman Mandal; 3) Jai Bhavani CHS and 4) Shri Ram CHS.

 

 

Dr. Kirit Somaiya, President Yuvak Pratishthan, Shri Sudhir More, Corporator Parksite Vikhroli, local leaders, local residents, Mandal members and other prominent persons were present at the programme.   They were happy about such type of help extended by Yuvak Pratishthan.

We are receiving good responses from the locality.   We will be happy to help some more localities to provide with the same facility.  We are continuous appealing to those who want facility can contact our office for further details.


Jeevan Aasha:

In the month of September, 85 new patients have visited our office and registered under Jeevan Aasha.   35 old patients have received financial assistance this month from different Trusts.  Others are under process.   The following chart is showing the category of the patients / cases:

Apart from this, we have received more than 1000 phone calls for enquiry / assistance during the month.

1 Patient screened for CT-Scan & 3 MRI cases forwarded to private institutions to be done at very concessional rates i.e. upto 60% & 50% discount respectively in their charges.

      We would like to mention here that one very poor patient Mrs. Barasati Mansaram Yadav a resident of Kadam Chawl, Room No. 4, Azad Nagar No. 1, Thane (W), who is to undergo for Open Heart Surgery, the expenditure for which is estimated for Rs.80,000/-. The patient belongs to very poor family and unable to expense such amount.  We have approached various trusts for financial assistance and we glad to mention here that the Rs.70,000/- sanctioned from different trusts. The surgery will be done shortly.

 

We request the individuals, organisatons, institutions and all who willing to help / support such patients can help by sending cheques directly in the name of the hospitals.  For further information one can contact our office by phone, fax or email.

We are receiving regular appreciation and gratitude from the patients.

Yuvak Pratishthan's Samarpan Arogya Kendra:

In the month of December, a total of 563 patients, which includes 163 new and 400 old, visited the centre and benefited through allopathic and homeopathic medication. 

In all, 3 Asthama, 2 Diabetes, 13 Chronic Arthritis and 9 Cardiac cases found.   Asthama and Chronic Arthritis cases referred for homeopathy treatment, Diabetes referred for further treatment and care.

Regular Mobile General Check –up camps continues.  7 camps held this month in Mulund area.  69 patients visited the camp. We request the citizen of Mulund, Bhandup and all nearby areas to visit the centre and take benefits of all the medication / health related problems from our centre.

Jeevan Akshay(Seva Mobile ) :

In the month of November, 4 camps were held at Ramabai Nagar, Bhandup, where 267 persons visited and get benefited through complete check-up, proper guidance and also provided medicines.   This includes 62 New & 205 Old patients.

In all 12 cases of STI / STD found which includes 5 STI and 7 STD respectively.  All are referred for further treatment.

At Kamraj Nagar, Ghatkopar, 4 camps were held where 293 persons performed complete check-up and provided medicines.

No cases of STI / STD have been registered this month.   All of general check-ups like fever, blood pressure etc. were distributed medicines.


Slum Intervention Project

All the regular activities, like BCC Event, One to One, One to Group Sessions, Condom Promotion & Distribution, Tertiary Visit, Secondary Visit, Video Shows, Lectures, Posters Exhibitions, Establishment of Condom Outlets, Treatment and Followup of STD patients, have been done.

Valmiki Ambedker Malin Basti Awas Yojana (VAMBAY):

Follow-up for other houses continued this month.   Survey is going on in Ghatkopar and Bhandup areas.


GTB
  HOSPITAL

Motivation and empowerment of the patients of GTB Hospital continues with the techniques such as Music Therapy, Yoga, Diet and Nutrition, Biogas Plant and Vocational Training for Rehabilitation of TB patients.

Every week 15-20 patients, which includes both male & female have been attending and taking benefits of yoga every Monday.  

We sincerely thanks, appreciate our co-workers for fulfilling their duties, and extending support in these activities.
