Om Creations Trust, a bud sowed in 1995 has blossomed into a flagrant flower. In 1991, S.P.J. Sadhana School came up with the idea of training mentally challenged children. The first batch of students graduated in 1995. Dr Radhike Khanna, the vice-principal of the school, along with three other founder trustees had the mind-blowing vision to channelize these graduated students’ potential to further their individuality. The objective was to empower in them a spirit that they can lead a normal life and be self-reliant.

 

Today, after 10 years, Om Creations Trust is confident that these fine adults can create indigenous works of art and craft. With a little boost from proficient care-workers, the students have developed a passion to work imaginatively. And this, only Om can do.

Arts Section From simple materials like paper, cloth and jute, the ladies create exclusive items like elegant gift bags, colorful silk scarves, jewellery, danglers and numerous other innovative items. Most of the products are exhibited on the Centre’s open-day, exhibitions in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi etc. Some buy in bulk and take it abroad. The items are well appreciated internationally and it is our dream to gain a niche in the foreign export market.

Catering Division has specially trained women in various cuisines and confectionary items. The eagerness with which they carry on their routine reflects in its sales. We are now recognized by various health shops for our low caloried items. We are producing a variety of foodstuffs ranging from mouth watering baked dishes to hot freshly baked breads.

Our chocolates are on par with the best in town, and a range of sugar free chocolates are made on special request. All our foodstuffs are prepared hygienically and with utmost care in selecting high quality ingredients.  

We are licensed by both the BMC [license number is 058912] and the fire department, which gives us some integrity especially in terms of quality standards.

 

We don’t speak of them as Down Syndrome persons as there is much more to them other than that. They are hugely gifted, talented and skillful individuals and are the core of our creative force. It is their efforts and precision with their work that gets them our regular clients.

 

In fact, with Christmas round the corner, we have already started receiving orders for special plum cakes and chocolates. Dry fruits soaked in the best of X’mas ingredients will definitely make our cakes a huge success. With sous-chef par excellence and imported ingredients used to give an extra tang to our delicacies, we believe this Christmas will be as jolly as last years.

 

You can help us by buying our products, introducing them to food shops and boutiques or even volunteering to share your skills with us. You can also donate towards the needs of our under-privileged trainees as well as for meals, equipment and the corpus. All donations are exempt from income tax under u/s 80G.

 

 

CONGRATULATIONS!

 

We congratulate our Dr. Radhike Khanna who was awarded the National Award for an individual who has worked in the field of Mentally Challenged  & Disabled Young Adults. The award was presented by President A. Kalam at a glittering ceremony in New Delhi on 3^rd December.

 

Happenings

 

Our first newsletter made headway with our known well-wishers. Its response was so great

that we yielded bumper crop of chocolate orders for Diwali. No doubt it was only from known clientele but we literally had to stop taking orders. We crossed the 1,200 kg. mark and had to apologize and turn down last minute bookings. Obviously, our talented workforce cannot be pressed to extort more.

 

Three opulent exhibitions in New Delhi — Akshay Pratisthan at Swiss Embassy, Blind Relief and Gumbad — and all of them created a sensation. And to add to our success, our California shoppers urged us to send 15,000 pieces of batwas, and wine bags urgently and even organized their own shippers.

 

We also had to cater to large orders from personalities like Mandira Bedi and for Goenka’s prestigious wedding.

 

These students were also invited to the Indian Institute of Jewellery at Mahalaxmi. Our young ladies displayed great enthusiasm in beading during the bead-workshop where they were given beads and thread and they returned home overjoyed.

 

These delightful ladies had an explosive time during a Diwali bash organized at Mayfair Rooms on Annie Besant Road. We were beaming with pride watching them perform, dance and speak spontaneously into the microphone. Chief guest Shanaz Mahimtura was seen having a joyous time among our enthusiastic friends. Organizer Zaver Sepoy had a big role to play in getting us Mayfair Rooms for the bash. Mrs. Sepoy, who formerly worked with the Taj Group of Hotels and has access to various CEOs and directors, spoke with officials from some hotels and now they're delighted to offer their hotel services to us.
