HOMES FOR POOR - 5 lakh ‘cheap\' homes in 5 years
The state is planning to build at least 5 lakh affordable rental houses across the city in the next five years. Kanjurmarg and Wadala have been shortlisted as areas where the 165-225 sq ft flats would be rented to citizens at rates of Rs 2,0003,000. The Kanjurmarg project will kick-off with 5,000 houses and NGO sparc will be roped in to help. Work on it is likely to start in April and end in 18 months. HT had reported MMRDA'S cheap rental housing plan on February 6 (Now, state proposes homes on rent for poor). Subsequently, the government earmarked Rs 100 crore for the project.
