PRESS RELEASE

27th February, 2007

Manch – North East Mumbai Citizens was recently launched to promote social, civil, educational causes in the district of North East.  The Manch will also act as a platform to focus on civic and other related issues.

North East is the largest District in Mumbai, both in terms of geographical area and number of citizens it has.  Inspite of this, North East is the least developed district in terms of safe drinking water, roads, open spaces, amenities such as municipal hospital, playgrounds, rainwater and sewage management, development of Powai Lake, and other civil, social and educational issues.  North East has large resources such as salt pans and hillocks which are being diluted slowly.   With increase in construction activities, Nort East is fast turning into a concrete jungle with no attention and focus on environmental, social and infrastructure issues.

Manch will work with other associations, NGOs and groups to further its objectivities.

A central working committee was elected at the meeting, which includes Chairman, General Secretary, Treasurer, Guardian for various wards/localities and Secretaries for various functions.
