Mulund’s road to hell paved with fast intent

In a collective show of unity to protest against Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) alleged apathy to pitiable condition of roads, 60 local organisations in Mulund have threatended to go on a hunger strike.
The local organisations have come under one roof and have called themselves Raasta Bachao Kruti Samiti. On Monday, they sent a letter to the T-ward office threatening to start the hunger strike in front of the civic office building, if authorities did not begin repairing roads by November 21. The organisations alleged their individual letters to authorities have failed to have any effect so far. They pointed out that while roads were in a sorry state, footpaths in the area were worse off. “Paver blocks have come loose at several area. The roads are uneven and paver blocks have caved in at several spots. We are tired of requesting authorities to repair them,” said Sharadram Sejpal, convenor of the samiti. “We have sent copies of our letters to municipal commissioners, assistant municipal commissioner’s and deputy municipal commissioner’s but to no effect. We will start the satyagraha if authorities fail to act,” he added. Supporting Sejpal’s claims, Harshad Joshi of a local organisation, Bhraman Seva Sangh, added, “It is sad to see honest tax payers being treated so indifferently.” Residents claim that not only have the paver blocks come loose at several places, even the roads are uneven as the blocks have caved in at several spots
