Gates gifts Rs 120cr to fight AIDS

Mumbai: The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation has extended an assistance of Rs 120 crore to Maharashtra to combat AIDS, public health minister Vimal Mundada told the state legislative council on Tuesday.
He said three international organisations and an NGO working in the state would obtain the funds which would be spread over a period of five years. The assistance, comprising medical equipment, will also be utilised for an intervention project aiming at diagnosing and treating veneral diseases among commercial sex workers.
