Teach For India enlists outstanding college graduates and young
professionals to teach for two years in India's most under-resourced
classrooms (in government and low-income private schools) and in the
long term, become leaders who will fight educational inequity
throughout their careers, across industries. We are planning to
launch our first class of Fellows in June of 2009, in Pune and Mumbai.

About the Teach For India Fellowship

Established in 2008, Teach For India seeks to bridge the educational
divide and increase the participation of highly skilled leaders in the
education sector in India. Teach For India will recruit, train and
support outstanding young professionals in all careers and recent
college graduates of all academic majors to commit to teaching in
under-resourced urban schools and become lifelong leaders in the
pursuit of educational excellence and equity. Teach For India Fellows
will use innovative teaching methods to help students achieve
excellence, and in doing so, will redefine teaching.

Fellowship Basics
• Salary: Rs. 15,000-22,000/month
• Placement in low-income primary English medium schools
• Full-time, residential pre-service training in May 2009 in Pune or
Mumbai
• Ongoing skill-building workshops, leadership training and lecture series
• Post-Fellowship career development for high-impact careers in all
sectors. Partners include Godrej, Monitor Group, Zensar, HDFC, and
Citigroup.

Application Criteria
Fellows will be selected from a competitive pool of applicants with a
diverse range of backgrounds.

Fellows are required to:
• Have completed an undergraduate degree prior to starting the program
in May 2009
• Be an Indian citizen or Permanent Resident
• Live in Pune or Mumbai for the duration of the Fellowship
• Commit to the Fellowship full-time for duration of Fellowship
• Be fluent in spoken and written English

Fellows are strongly preferred to:
• Have demonstrated leadership in a work or extra-curricular setting
• Have a history of high achievement in academics and/or work
• Have exceptional inter-personal skills
• Thrive in an achievement-oriented, results-oriented and fast-paced
environment
• Have a strong commitment to educational equity

Application Process
All candidates must complete an application (available at
www.teachforindia.org). Shortlisted candidates will advance to a
phone interview and an all-day, in-person assessment interview. At
each stage, applicants are evaluated against a set of rigorous
criteria, including their leadership skills, critical thinking
ability, and communication skills.
