What Life is?
LIFE is a Registered Public Charitable Trust which was set up in 2000 in Chennai and is exempted under 80-G of the Income Tax Act. Since its inception 5 years ago, LIFE has been working on various activities in Chennai – A Home for Destitute Children, Vocational Schools, Non- Formal Schools, Community Clinics, Medical Camps and Relief Works. In Mumbai, LIFE projects primarily revolves around education, which is been addressed with non-formal and creative teaching aids. This is in extension to our mission statement to empower schools and children with improvements in educational resources to address the issue of dropouts and poor results. LIFE closely works with the Education Department of the BMC in running multiple projects for the 49 secondary schools – Projects like Career Counseling, Effective Study Habits, Math Made Easy, English Made Easy, Value education, Education on Wheels, Chill-Zone, Industrial Trips and Intervention with schools for the Mentally Challenged. In June 2006, LIFE started the third chapter in Bangalore. In extension of our mission to work with the Public school system LIFE established a chapter to work with the Bangalore Municipal corporation schools. LIFE is also closely working with 30 institutions for Mentally Challenged in providing training programmes for faculty, parents and students on various LIFEskills. LIFE also partners several institutions (homes, orphanages and remand homes) by conducting workshops on LIFEskills and various recreational activities. A pioneering project with the Department of Psychiatry of Nair Hospital in Mumbai is being established for children with Learning Disabilties for diagnosing, testing, remediation and certification.
