IF SOMEONE GOES MISSING
* The first thing you should do, if someone from your family or neighbourhood goes missing, is to search for him/her in the locality and make calls to friends or relatives who can help you trace the person. * Go to the nearest police station if your search does not yield anything. Remember that there have been lots of cases of people going on picnics with friends and returning home after a couple of days while a missing complaint has been lodged by parents.
* Every police station has a Missing Persons’ Register. Take a photograph of the person who has gone missing and give details like height, complexion, birthmarks (if any), the time and place where s/he was seen last and the dress s/he was wearing. Cooperate with the police by providing as much information as possible about the person, including his/her psychological profile, suicidal tendencies (if any) and physical ailments.
* Take permission from the police to paste pictures of the person at public places like bus stands and railway stations.
* You can visit the Missing Persons’ Bureau at the police headquarters near Crawford Market and hand over photographs, which are given to Doordarshan for telecast at 8.55 pm on weekdays.
