We, at Karmayog, feel that there are some primary reasons which are the root cause of problems faced by citizens:
- formal education is not widespread enough
- there is not enough knowledge of and stress on a citizen's rights and responsibilities
- the underlying economics / reality are not addressed
- laws are not well-drafted enough to ensure that they are fair, implementable, don't have loopholes, don't encourage corruption, have clear procedures, etc.
- mechanisms for implementing laws, schemes, programmes are not fully thought through or managed properly
- the judicial process is too slow and too cumbersome
Almost all of the other problems and issues that we face today arise out of such core reasons and are only symptoms of these.
Hence unless we tackle these key issues, other problems will continue to manifest in various forms.
When people are thinking and meeting and looking for solutions to the various problems that society faces today, it is hence necessary to think at this deeper level.
So, at the Karmayog get-together, as you discuss problems and action steps, do think of how to incorporate steps to deal with these primary reasons.
