A no-agenda get-together for Karmayog members was held in Mumbai to celebrate Karmayog’s 4th anniversary on June 27, 2008. This section contains details of our objectives behind holding such an event, the planning behind the get-together and how the event was organised, feedback and ideas from those who attended, as well as our thoughts and analysis about the get-together. It is hoped that this information will enable others to organise similar events, in as effective a manner as possible.

good solutions need diverse discussions -- Karmayog get-together

There is one more important reason for experienced people and recent entrants in the social sector to meet each other -- those working for the same cause and even those involved with different issues.

We, at Karmayog, have seen that when people take up an issue without deep discussion with a large set of people who have different perspectives, experiences, and solutions for the problem, then such people spend a lot of time trying to push 'solutions' which are incomplete, superficial, have problematic side-effects or repercussions, and then they feel frustrated and soon get into a confrontational or cynical mood.

Even more dangerous is that they come with ideas where the 'cure is worse than the disease' and try to push these through media, PILs, legislation, etc.

So its important for sensible people, whether or not involved with an NGO, to give their inputs for the various problems that society faces and not just assume that whoever is trying to spearhead an issue is an 'expert' or has a comprehensive-enough approach or solution.

So do attend the Karmayog get-together on Friday, June 27th, and interact with the various people and organisations who are involved with different issues.

Thanks
Vinay
