The theme for this year's Lecture Series is "Planning Himalayan Trips and Expeditions". Eminent speakers will conduct interactive sessions on various topics covering many issues that contribute towards organising a successful expedition or a trip to the Himalaya. A registration fee of Rs. 100/- is payable for participation which also includes the cost of Tea/Snacks/Lunch & Writing Material. Local Secretary The Himalayan Club, Mumbai. Late Mr. Arun Samant Late Mr. Arun Samant was an alumnus of prestigious IIT and a structural engineer by profession. He was the Honorary Secretary of the Himalayan Club for many years. A highly experienced mountaineer, Arun loved to visit and explore remote areas of the Himalaya. His well drawn and detailed maps added immense value to the Himalayan Journal and to many other publications. With his immense passion for the Himalaya, he inspired many young climbers. The Himalayan Club, Mumbai Section organises this popular and informative lecture series every year in his memory through the generous contribution by his wife, Dr. Geeta Samant. Brief Introductions of Speakers Harish Kapadia A renowned explorer and mountaineer, Mr. Harish Kapadia has visited most parts of the Indian Himalaya during the last 40 years and has led several joint expeditions to the Himalaya. He is the editor of the prestigious Himalayan Journal since 1975 and author of many critically acclaimed books on the Himalaya. In 2003, after a gap of 125 years for an Indian, Mr. Kapadia was also awarded the prestigious Patron's Medal of the Royal Geographical Society. Mr. Kapadia has been the Vice President of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF). He is also an honorary member of the Alpine Club, the American Alpine Club and many prestigious organisations all over the world. Recently, in September 2006, he was also awarded the King Albert Award at St Moritz, Switzerland. Divyesh Muni He is one of the leading mountaineers of the country and has led and participated in various expeditions to the Indian Himalaya. He has climbed many peaks such as Kamet, Manirang, Khhang Shiling and Suj Tilla. A chartered accountant by profession, he is currently the Hon. Secretary of the Himalayan Club. Systematic approach and meticulous preparations by Mr. Divyesh Muni has been a critical component to success of many expeditions. He is sharing his wealth of mountaineering experience in this lecture series by covering two different topics encompassing the basic planning of an expedition as well as use of modern gadgets like GPS. Vineeta Muni The better half of the Muni couple is well known for her humour and tenacity in the mountains. She herself has organised and led many expeditions to the Himalaya and shared numerous adventures with her husband. The feather in her proud cap however has been her continuous traverse of the complete Himalayan range - from Arunachal to the Karakoram. A commercial artist by profession, Ms Vineeta Muni will be sharing her thoughts on food planning for expeditions. After all, like soldiers, the mountaineers too move on their stomachs! Bhishmaraj Bam A high profile police officer, Mr.Bhishmaraj Bam is well known to the sports world as a 'Guru' of psychological development. After his retirement from the police force, Mr. Bam has busied himself towards sports psychology and his trainees include top stars of Indian sports scene like Syed Modi, Anjali Bhagwat, Kamlesh Dua et al. His major contribution to the field of mountaineering was his stellar role towards preparing the first expedition team from Maharashtra that successfully scaled Mt. Everest. Mr. Bam will show us how achievers reach the top and overcome various adversities to ensure their success. Mohit Oberoi A pioneer of Sports Climbing (Competition Climbing) in India, he is an avid rock climber and mountain enthusiast. Being an outdoor equipment dealer by profession, Mr. Mohit Oberoi has wealth of knowledge related to all kinds of mountaineering equipment. He will familiarize us to the conventional mountaineering equipment with a special emphasis on the modern trends. Dr Raghunath Godbole A leading medical practitioner from Pune, Dr. Godbole also has a special interest in the High Altitude Sickness and its remedies. Besides pursuing his interest in mountain medicine, he is an ardent trekker and a mountaineer and has visited the great range on many adventures. Dr Godbole will talk about the prevention and cure of the high altitude ailments. Maninder Kohli A banker by profession and a passionate nature lover, Mr. Maninder Kohli has been a compulsive visitor to the Himalaya for many years. He is also highly skilled about photography in the mountains. Beginning his passion with a simple camera, Mr. Kohli has, over the years,graduated to the latest digital photo optics.
