Jan 05: Mumbai : Bharatajazzyam (Bharatnatyam + jazz)

Our traditional dance forms are versatile enough to have remained
relevant over centuries, preserving the old and embracing the new. The
proof of this is Inner Courtyard 's next program – Bharatajazzyam.

This experiment, by danseuse Smt Namita Bodaji, sets traditional
Bharatnatyam moves and gestures to modern, contemporary and "jazzed"
up music. This evening promises to be a unique experience.

Smt Namita Bodaji has learnt Bharatnatym from Guru G Vasant Kumar of
Sri Rajarajeswari Bharata Natya Kala Mandir. She is a recipient of the
title "Singar Mani" and has to her credit many widely acclaimed
performances all over the world. She is known for her aesthetic
creativity and abhinay. She trains students for dance at her Samskara
Academy and opens their mind to using dance as a medium of
contemporary expression.

Inner Courtyard, in association with Y. B. Chavan Partishthan,
endeavors to bring you uniquely conceived programmes to make the arts
more accessible to those who are keen to be initiated into the
classical and traditional forms. It also attempts to evoke the
interest of younger generations to understand our ancient traditions
to encourage patronage for them.
