A Panel Discussion on State, Development and People's Movements

New Trade Union Initiative
&
National Alliance of People’s Movements
INVITE YOU FOR
A PANEL DISCUSSION ON
“State, Development and People’s Movements”

Dear Friends,
Development as a process has been multi faceted to all of us and thus highly contestable. The paradigm being followed has clearly brought two facets before us. For a section it remains desirable and fascinating while for the other which is majority, the antodaya, it means destitution, destruction, devastation and displacement.

The role of the State though a trustee of the public resources, is on the contrary facilitating and pushing these processes leading to not only destitution but also dehumanization of populations and ecology. Whether it is the case of drowning of adivasis of Narmada valley or forcibly taking away of agri-lands from the farmers of Singur, the corrupt and crude face of State stands exposed. People’s Movements have been at the forefront in not only exposing this face of the State but also proposing and pointing towards equity based & justice oriented paradigm of development which is the need of the hour today more than ever before.

Realizing the continuous need for dialogic reflection and action we invite you to join this process.
