The Feuerstein Programmes In India
Learning Potential Assessment Device (LPAD) An Intensive Training Programme in Dynamic Assessment for Clinicians and Teachers & Mediated Learning Experience (MLE) For Parents and Teachers by Dr. Louis Falik, ICELP, Jerusalem Prof. Reuven Feuerstein, the founder of the International Centre for the Enhancement of Learning Potential (ICELP), Jerusalem, is world renowned for his work over the last five decades with people suffering from developmental disorders and brain injuries. The theory of Structural Cognitive Modifiability (SCM) and the Mediated Learning Experience (MLE) programme developed by him states that learning ability can be significantly enhanced, regardless of age, nature, cause or severity of the condition. Clinical observations over decades have shown that the development of thinking processes is highly dependent on the nature and quality of the interaction within which selected stimuli are mediated by parents, educators, etc. For the first time, the Maharashtra Dyslexia Association, Mumbai, the Alpha to Omega Learning Centre, Chennai and the Vasant Valley School, New Delhi join hands to bring these assessment and intervention programmes to multiple venues across India. We are grateful to Prof. Falik and the ICELP for making services and test kits available at subsidized rates in order to make these workshops more accessible to more parents, teachers and institutions. Introduction to dynamic assessment as a process. Learning the instruments (tools) of assessment. Observation of mediation (a demonstration) and practicing as part of a time working with an examinee, under supervision and coaching. Analysis of results and initial formulation of assessment conclusions and goals for mediational intervention. LPAD for Young Children (LPAD-Basic) This program will introduce participants to the basic theory and structure of the Learning Potential Assessment Device-Basic (LPAD-B) as a method of dynamic assessment for young children and older, severely low functioning individuals. This method was devised by Professor Reuven Feuerstein, and is a “downward extension” of the LPAD-Standard. It is expected that participants taking this workshop will have had prior training in the LPAD-S. * The workshop will introduce the instruments of the LPAD -B and the conceptual and practical theory which underlies them. The training will enable participants to conduct dynamic assessments using the instruments. The modalities of training will include: Exposure to models and concepts of dynamic assessment for young children Clinical demonstrations of various instruments and processes Opportunities to practice with subjects as part of an assessment team Guided discussions of clinical processes and data gathered through Dynamic assessment Introduction to formulating results, recommendations, and written reports. For exceptions to this policy, potential participants must consult with Professor Falik or the conference organizers to determine appropriateness of participation. At the completion of the workshop, the participants will be able to conduct LPAD - B assessments to determine the cognitive functioning levels of students, and work with teachers, parents, and other professional providers to assist in the planning and adaptation of the student’s learning experience. As such, the LPAD has become a valuable asset in the planning and decision-making regarding student progress and placement. …………………………………………………………………………………..
