A walk on the wild side . . . an exhibition by Neeraj Chawla In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we often overlook the countless marvels and blessings Nature has bestowed upon us. A walk on the wild side . . . is an exhibition of digital wildlife images by Neeraj Chawla on his various expeditions in India. His passion for photography began when his father gifted him an Olympus OM10 in the early 80’s. Since then, he has continued to capture the beauty of Nature in his work. In this series, he highlights the birdlife in India’s forests, as well as stunning images of butterflies and mammals. A walk on the wild side . . . showcases the diversity of India’s wildlife, and every caption provides information on the species that has been photographed. In this series he also addresses the man-animal conflict and environmental problems that are associated with urban development and diminishing forests. “I feel that the future generations should and will be more concerned about the conservation of their surroundings, and will help maintain the vital balance of environment, which is fast decaying due to various issues.” Neeraj adds. He studied architecture at Rachna Sansad, and when he showed his photographs to the Academy was overwhelmed by the warm welcome extended by all the senior members and Chairman, Neeraj says, “I am grateful to chairman Shri Wandrekar for proposing this event, and the co-operation of all the members for letting me showcase my work at Rachana Sansad”. Every year 20,000 flamingos descend on the city of Mumbai, flying into the Sewri Bay off the Thane Creek. In The Pink is a pioneering documentary that investigates why they come to this bustling city, and it is the first to get up- close and personal with these exotic visitors. It combines beautiful visuals, fine music and hard-hitting questions about the environment which the flamingos share with us.
