Children's voices against poverty Enabling the Promise of Making Health & Education a Reality for Every Child OCTOBER 16, 2006 (Delhi ) October 7, 2006 Greetings from Wada Na Todo Abhiyan (WNTA)! WNTA is a national campaign that seeks to mainstream the concerns of the marginalized communities in the national policies and plans, with a special focus on the Right to Livelihood, Health and Education. The Abhiyan is active in 15 states of India, and is represented by more than 900 civil society organizations. In this context we are organizing a program titled 'Children's Voices against Poverty' on Oct 16, 2006 in Delhi, which is the eve of the World Anti-Poverty Day . The event is aimed to draw attention the promise made through the Millennium Declaration and National Development Goals through the voices of children such as from the nomadic communities of Maharashtra, Rajasthan & Gujarat, tribal communities of Orissa & Jharkhand, dalit communities of Andhra & Uttar Pradesh, and the slum and homeless communities of Mumbai & Delhi, and with the involvement of students from more than 30 educational institutions in Delhi. This initiative also aims to highlight the commitment made in the National Common Minimum Program (2004-09) that 6% of India's GDP would be committed to Education, and 3% to Health. Accordingly, 'Nine Is Mine (9 ka Wada)' is a call that will be given by over 3000 children from across India on the eve of World Anti-Poverty Day. The "Nine Is Mine" campaign would continue to bring children together for the Right to Health and Education between October 2006 and February 2007. The program culminates in the release of the 'Nine Is Mine' Children's Declaration and the endorsement of the global call to 'Stand Up against Poverty' that is being co-ordinated across 80 countries by the United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC) and the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP). In this context, it gives us great pleasure to invite both you to be a part of this initiative , and allow us to gain from your inputs and solidarity with the struggles and aspirations of the children who will participate in this program. A copy of the proposed program is attached with this letter for your reference. We would be greatly obliged if you would consent to being a part of this program, which will ensure that the objectives for which we have come together will have been met.
