December 03: Mumbai: Disabilities” - “Nothing about Us without Us”

As declared by United Nations, "Dignity and Justice for all of us" is
the theme of this year's International day of the persons with
Disabilities' and the Motto for the day is `Nothing about US without US.
On 3rd December 2008, United Nations will be celebrating International
day of the persons with disabilities at UN Headquarters in New York.
25 Local NGO's and Schools dealing with various disabilities like
Mentally Challenged, Physically Challenged, Visually Impaired and
Hearing Impaired have teamed up to celebrate `The international day of
persons with disabilities' at Goregaon Sports Club, Mumbai on 3rd
December from 7.00am onwards.
This year `Union Bank of India' has joined hands with `Goregaon Sports
Club', `Lions Clubs International Dist. 323 A3' and along with
Institutions working for the disabled under the agies of `Special
District Social welfare Department (Mumbai suburb)' in Sponsoring and
Organizing the Programme.
The programme aims at sensitizing the broader society by arranging
wide variety of events like Interschool Athletic meet, Awareness Rally
at Goregaon and Chembur and Exhibition. More than 3000 people will be
participating from various Schools, NGO's, and Parents of children,
Trustees and Members of Goregaon Sports Club and Members from the
Lions Clubs International Dist. 323 A3.
The event will see the participation of people from different walks of
life like Corporates, Celebrities, Professionals, Students, Parents
and Young Social Entrepreneurs. Such Entire spectrum of society in
joining in to express the feeling of "We care"
According to the Census 2001, there are 2.19 crore persons with
disabilities in India. The statistics are daunting! Let's stand up to
spread the cause, Join us in proving that `we care' for the
differently abled,
We seek empathy not sympathy!
