June 22: Mumbai: Workshop on Coastal Management Zone

This is to invite all concerned citizens, environmentalists, greens
and right minded citizens and friends in the print and electronic media to a
workshop to discuss and finalize the objections / suggestions to the Draft
Notification of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), which seeks
to pave the way for unhindered "development" (and thus destruction) of our
coasts.

       It is essential that we all brainstorm and decide what our protests
would be as it has been observed that the said Draft aims to open up almost
all our coastal regions for "development" in some way or the other. It is
imperative that even if you, for some reason, could not attend then at least
your objections be sent to the concerned authorities before the deadline of
30.6.2008.

       We are attaching the existing "Coastal Regulation Zone 1991"
Regulations and the proposed Coastal Management Zone Notification with this
e-mail. Do go through it and come prepared with your suggestions /
objections so that it could be collated and a collective informed protest
gets lodged with the MoEF.   The address and the e-mail id where our

to arrange for the same at the Canteen in the IES premises.)*

attend and / or depute your reporters / assistants to cover this event.
