Puppetry as an art form, and its power in storytelling, is much overlooked in these days of digital entertainment. Prithvi Theatre in Bombay is holding a series of superb workshops for children again this summer, and among them is GIANT PUPPETS by Anurupa Roy, from Delhi. It really is a super workshop - Anurupa has done many workshops and is great with kids; and these giants that they make are superb!

Giant Puppets / 12 to 16 yrs / by Anurupa Roy (English & Hindi) Never met a giant??!! Build one of your own, a giant puppet!! Invent your own character, 5,6 or even 10 feet tall!! Your own whacky characters!! Characters from nonsense poems!! And that is not all, manipulate the puppet, make it dance, move, scare the living daylights out of your friends, make them gasp in wonder!! Anurupa Roy started puppet theatre in school and the passion continued through her college years and finally became a full time career. She has diplomas in Puppet Theatre from the Dept of puppetry under Prof Michael Meschke at Dramatiska Institut (Institute for Film, Television, Radio and Theatre), Stockholm, Sweden and also from the Scoula Della Guaratelle in Naples, Italy. She runs Kat-Katha a puppet troupe in New Delhi which has produced several performances which have addressed gender issues, issues of conflict resolution and AIDS awareness.

……..about Ram looks at the Ramayana story as Ram's journey from his exile of 13 years to Sita's abduction, Hanuman's leap across the sea to Lanka, to the war with Ravan and the final rescue of Sita . This multi media performance has no words only puppets, animation, music and dance. This is a show for the entire family.
Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust & Vishal K. Dar
This is a collaborative performance between Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust and Vishal K Dar. Katkatha is a puppet theatre company involved in puppet design, construction and performance. It also uses puppetry in therapy, community health interventions, activism and education. Vishal K Dar is an architect, visual and multi media artist based in Delhi.
