Electricity

This section on Electricity is managed by Mr Sandeep N. Ohri . Mr. Ohri runs a small-scale unit in the Flexible Packaging industry.
Ever since he received a revised tariff bill from REL, in October 2006, he has been studying and fighting for consumers rights on the Electricity issue.

He has represented the consumers at MERC's Public Hearings for BEST tariff hike (was successful in cancelling the hike of Rs. 700 cr) , and at the Apellate Tribunal for Electricity Hearing for REL's proposal to charge us an extra Rs 1000+ cr (next date Feb 20).

He moderates the "bijlee" Group and the TPS PTA Group at Yahoogroups.

Title of article: Electric Bill or Electric Bolt (shock) from the Blue

I just received an electricity bill for Rs.960 (Rs.4/unit) for 241 units consumed (March 08) and did it generate an electric shock? (Mar07 bill indicate Rs.719 (Rs.3/unit) for 247 units). No, not an electric shock but a 1000 voltage bolt that blew my bheja to smithereens. Reliance levying standby charges (whats this????), fuel adjustment charge, Govt. electricity duty, Mah Govt. tax on sale of electricity (??????) - perhaps i am naive, i dont understand why all these charges are levied when they are already factored in energy charge + fixed charges. Whilst the BEST is charging Rs.2.50/unit, Reliance is charging us Rs.4/unit. Corret me if I am wrong. Both these companies get their supply from Tata Power and yet their charges vary. Why? Why? Why?

I am not trying to be offensive here but am only trying to fathom the minds of Reliance and the Maharashtra Govt.

who are out to loot the public in broad daylight and the worst part is they go scott free as the aam admi do not

challenge them. I am sure other Users will bear with me that Reliance is trying to make mickey mouse (idiot) out

of us or we are just being submissive to all their charges? Is it because the aam admi has become lethargic

and have just given up. I know I am not the only guy interalia others in Mumbai who's fed up with what's happening

currently? Where is our outrage? Where is our angst? We should be screaming bloody murder. R V cowards?

No, I don’t think so but definitely lethargic and before this spreads further like cancer, can we weed it out

and progress ahead.

I guess we need to have competition amongst the suppliers of electricity for e.g. Reliance, Best, Tata Power, or any other supplier(s) in the suburbs. You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my bheja, and maybe I have.

But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore. I'll go a step further. You can't call

yourself a patriot if you're not outraged. This is a fight I'm ready and willing to have. The Biggest 'C' is Crisis!

I'm not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. I'm trying to light a fire. I'm speaking out because I have hope,

I believe in India. I believe in You.
