Appt as Scientific Office/Engineer-D/E in the R&D units of Department of Atomic Energy. The Dr K S Krishnan Research Associateship is awarded in disciplines of chemical/computer/ electrical/ electronics/ mechanical/ metallurgical/structural engg; physical/ chemical/ radiation/life/ medical environmental/ agri sciences/electronics/ materials sci at one of the centres (i)Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (ii)Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (iii)Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, Indore (iv)Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Kolkata (v)Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Mumbai. Up to 20 KSKRAs can be selected per year, paid a stipend of Rs 20000 pm plus benefits for max 2 yrs. During the 2nd yr of associateship, subject to satisfactory performance, the KSKRAs will be absorbed in one of the R&D units of DAE and appointed in the grade of Scientific Officer/Engineer-D/E.
 
Who can apply? Indian national, not more than 32 ys as on Jan 1 in the yr of application (5 yrs relaxation for SC/ST, 3 yrs for OBC). 1st class in master’s/bachelor’s (i) For engineers, PhD degree in engg (those who have submitted thesis for PhD may apply) or MTech/ME) with min 2-yr R&D experience after obtaining MTech/ME degree (ii) For scientists, PhD degree in science (Those who have submitted thesis may apply).

POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLARSHIP 2008-09

For: Postdoctoral Research in sci, engg and tech, humanities and social sciences in Indian univs by the University Grants Commission, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi – 110002. Fellowship is Rs 12000 pm for 5 yrs, Rs 30000 as contingency grant pa for 5 yrs, departmental assistance is 10% of fellowship to the host institution and escorts/readers assistance at Rs 2000 pm, for PH/VH candidates
 
Who can apply? SC/ST candidates with doctorate degree in relevant subject, preferably with published research work. Recognised university. Upper-age limit for males is 50 yrs and 55 yrs for females on Jul 1. PG SCHOLARSHIP

For: Professional courses by the University Grants Commission, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi-110002 to provide assistance to SC/ST candidates for PG studies in a professional subject at recognised Indian universities. Assistance is available at Rs 5000 pm for MTech and contingency grant of Rs 15000 pa and other courses, Rs 3000 pm and contingency grant of Rs 10000 pa.
 
Who can apply? SC/ST candidates who have obtained graduate degree in relevant subject and obtained admission at the PG level for regular full-time course in any professional subject in a recognised university. Upper age limit for males applicants is 45 yrs as on July 1 of the year of application and 50 yrs for females. (www.ugc.ac.in)
 
Application: Format given in notification, which appeared on May 10 in Employment News. Submit to the Under Secretary (SA-III), University Grants Commission at above address forwarded through the university where the fellow is pursuing his/her PG course.

KISHORE VAIGYANIK PROTSAHAN YOJANA

For: Students in class 11 to BSc/integrated MSc and I/II yr of BE/BTech/BArch/MBBS interested in research. Fellowships from Rs 4000-7000 pm and contingency grants (equivalent of 4 months fellowships) awarded by Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India.
 
Who can apply? (I) For basic sciences, Stream SA - for students joining class 11 sci with 75% in math and sci or 65% for SC/ST in class 10; Stream SB -for students enrolled in first-year BSc degree/ MSc integrated prog having secured min 60% or 50% for SC/ST in math and sci in class 12; SB + 2 (SX) - students of class 12 of the academic year 08-09 aspiring to join IISER for integrated MS prog for the session in Aug 2009 may take the KVPY aptitude test for the SB Stream provided they secure min 75% or 65% for SC/ST in math and sci in class 10; Stream SP (basic sciences) for students in class 11, 12 or I/ II year of any UG prog in basic sciences during 08-09 and secured min 60% or 50% for SC/ ST in class 10 and 12, send a hard copy of the sci-based research project with application. Aptitude test for Stream SA/SB and SB+2 (SX) is on Nov 2, 2008 (II) For engg, Stream SP (engg) for students joining 1st/ 2nd yr BE/BTech/BArch during 08-09, having secured min 60% in math and sci in class 10 and 12 or 50% for SC/ST; students joining II yr of BE/BTech/BArch must have passed with min 60% (50% for SC/ST) in the I yr of BE/BTech/BArch/send hard copy of the sci/engg based research project with application. (III) For medicine, Stream SP (medicine) students, joining 1st/ 2nd professional yr of MBBS prog during 08-09; must have passed class 12 with 75% or 65% for SC/ST in sci subjects or passed 1st professional MBBS exam with min 60% (50% for SC/ST). Application: Each stream has its own form. Students who wish to apply for more than one stream should submit separate applications. Applicants may apply by hard copy or online. For the hard copy, deposit processing fee of Rs 200 (Rs 100 for SC/ST) at any core banking branches of State Bank of India, payable at all branches in India paid into the credit of Administrative Executive, KVPY A/c No 10270577392 and send pay-in slip along with request indicating the stream (SA, SB, SP, etc) on the form. CBSE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR CLASS 10 PASS IN 2008

For: Single girl child granted during study of class 11. Scholarship amount is Rs 500 pm for 2 yrs.
 
Who can apply? Indian national, single girl child and the only child of her parents; should be a student of a CBSE school and scored min 60% in class 10 exam 2008 conducted by CBSE; should be currently studying in CBSE affiliated schools where the fee for class 10 was not more than Rs 1000 pm during the academic year 07-08. In the next 2 years, the total enhancement of tuition fee in such schools shall not be more than 10% of the tuition fee charged in 07-08.

CBSE SINGLE GIRL CHILD MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

For: UG studies. Scholarship amount is Rs 500pm for 3 yrs.
 
Who can apply? Indian national, single girl child, only child of her parents; should be a student of CBSE board in class 12 and scored min 60% in 2008 CBSE board; currently pursuing UG course (non-medical/engg) in any Central/ State Govt Univ or those recognised by UGC/AICTE.
