Title of article: Education and womens' empowerment

Findstone.com - Marlet Place for Building Stones
My dear friends in India

Since 1985 my wife Hazel and myself have pursued the path of womens' empowerment through nursery and adult training programmes, and girl pupil encouragement grants,
These are centred on Baramati and currently focussed on NMVP School in Pandare.

From our experience of parenting three daughters, and through our respective professional activities, we have seen that the influence within family life by mothers, who spend most time with their children, is an obvious opportunity to be seized on. It is also true that the glass ceiling that women hit in mid career has to be broken once and for all in all nations to achieve equality of the sexes.

Recently we have given support to Vanastali, based in Pune, who have similar aims through the establishment of nursery teacher training centres in Maharashtra State, and nursery provision. The new building in Baramati, funded largely by Friends of France, and inaugurated by Sharad Pawar in March 2008, is a model facility for this work.

The work at NMVP School is centred on the provision of awards to rural girl pupils, and a village school twinning project with a rural school in UK, now in its third year. In May 2009 an Indian / English teacher with 4 girl pupils are conductiong an educational study tour from Pandare tyo UK as part of the Communications Project.

If there is any one else in UK or India involved with these types of projects we would be very interested in making a contact and exchanging ideas.
