Objectives of the course: 

 

·        To gain an understanding of issues related to women, their rights, perceptions, aspirations, dreams and development

·        To understand the ways in which society has been constructed, the universal nature of patriarchal structures, the gender stereotypes that have been imposed

·        To examine women’s realities within the framework of academic disciplines, e.g. Sociology, Psychology, Economics, etc.

·        To gain an insight into the history of women’s development and the various interventions that have been made, and strategies that have been employed  to empower women (individual, collective, and governmental)

·        To understand the principles, ideals, beliefs and practices that are involved in development work, especially with relation to women

·        To learn the skills, values and ethics of development work

·        To appreciate the importance of development work and women’s empowerment in the present context
