Dust storms kills 25 in north India....New Delhi

AS MANY as 25 people were killed and over 50 injured in fierce dust storms, heavy rains and bolts of lightning in different parts of North India on Wednesday .

The dust storms triggered house collapses, uprooted trees and electric poles and snapped communication links in vast areas in the region.

Twenty-three fatalities were reported from Uttar Pradesh, which bore the brunt of the weather fury and two from New Delhi.

In Uttar Pradesh, seven people were killed in Etawah, five in Mathura, four each in Firozabad and Hathras, two in Kanpur and one in Sitapur. The duststorms were followed by heavy downpours, which plummeted mercury providing much-needed respite to people reeling under searing heat.

Several places, including Lucknow, went without power for several hours as high-velocity winds knocked out electric poles.
