The government of Several villages were surveyed and finally Sanganakal Certain agencies committed to rural development, The University of Agricultural Sciences, Department of agriculture and Tungabhadra Grameena Bank, have actively co-operated with MCF in meeting the social objectives of the Trust. The activities of the Trust over the years has included rural education in health care, setting up reading rooms, empowering women, providing drinking water, conservation of energy, donating critical equipment to rural hospitals, furniture to rural schools, construction of community centers and rural hostels and training villagers in subsidiary occupations. Some of the developmental activities undertaken by the Trust are: · Adopting Sangankal village in Bellary District, Herur village in Raichur District, Kulinje · The projects undertaken include construction of Community bath and toilets, providing better infrastructure to the schools, improving their libraries, construction of community halls and hostels and providing water distribution systems. · Formation of a Mangala Farm Club in the villages and organizing sports activities, free health check-up, eye camps, etc. in association with the Lions Club. · Participation in the construction of a 'Mangala Bhavan' Auditorium in the Rotary School, Moodabidri, Dakshina Kannada District, by giving financial assistance. · Providing Sewing Machines to Mahila Mandals, plant protection equipment to Yuvaka Mandals, Swasthic Chulhas under the non-conventional Energy Resource Scheme, community TV sets, etc. in different villages. · Extending financial assistance for surgeries and intra-ocular lens implants to the disabled in association with reputed eye hospitals. Environment Management The need for a safe and healthy environment is stressed. An effluent treatment and disposal system was provided in the design stage of the plant itself. Thereafter, advanced pollution control measures have been regularly incorporated. A centralized domestic effluent treatment plant has been installed. The treated effluent strictly complies with the parameters that are stipulated and is discharged into a green belt of over 80 acres of forest area created within the plant. During the monsoon, the treated effluent water is pumped to the Change from a chromate-based program to a non-toxic phosphate based system was made in the cooling water treatment system in 1991. Welfare Measures Mangala Raitha Suraksha Vima Yojane The Company has introduced a innovative Accident Insurance Scheme for its customer farmers called the 'Mangala Raitha Suraksha Vima Yojane' from September 2002. The scheme is open to all Mangala farmers in the Company’s marketing territory. The nominee of the insured gets a financial benefit upto Rs.25,000 in the event of accidental death or partial disablement. The entire expense of this Group Insurance Policy is met by the Company at no cost to the farmer. So far 1,49,360 policies have been distributed. Ten farming families have so far benefited from this scheme. Pollution Control Measures Effluent Treatment & Disposal With the aim of ensuring minimum disturbance to the ecology, all possible precautions have been taken to avoid pollution. Effluent treatment and disposal systems in a number of chemical plants in A Urea Hydrolyser Stripper unit, at a cost of Rs.8 Crores, was added in 1990 to treat the effluent from the Urea and Ammonia plants and the outlet water from the Stripper is reused as cooling tower make-up. As a good corporate citizen, the Company has gone beyond merely complying with the pollution control norms. We are committed to preserving and maintaining the ecological balance.
